Technics unveils the next generation high-end turntables in its iconic SL-1200 Series

Technics today unveils the SL-1200GR2 and SL-1210GR2 direct-drive, high-end turntables, the next generation of its iconic SL-1200 Series that brings the best performance to date for audio enthusiasts.

Showcasing a sleek design, the new SL-1200GR2 in silver and SL-1210GR2 in black bring the renowned Technics layout for ultimate usability, while delivering a superior audio experience through the elimination of micro vibrations and a new silent power supply.

Built on the SL-1200GR and 1210GR, with expertise from Technics Grand Class amplifiers and multi-digital audio players, new features include a low-noise, low voltage variation power circuit and proprietary noise-cancelling circuit, for unprecedented high-precision sound. A motor control signal generated by Delta-Sigma(ΔΣ) Modulation also ensures smoother, more stable rotation and the highest accuracy in amplitude.

The new high-end turntables mark another milestone for Technics in developing the direct drive turntable market, taking the 1200 Series to the next level by bringing the increased precision that audiophiles demand. The SL1200 launched in 1972, becoming a best-selling model with cumulative sales of 3.5m units. Since then, Technics has released numerous turntable models of the new SL-1200 Series, bringing evolutionary improvements in the fields of tonearm, platter and chassis construction, expanding appeal beyond pure DJ usage to audiophiles.

“The latest models in our SL-1200 Series set the bar as the new go-to direct-drive, high-end turntables, and showcase our unwavering dedication to quality engineering that fuses sound, technology and design for the ultimate way to enjoy the rich sound of analogue records,” says Frank Balzuweit, Senior Product Manager at Technics Europe.

“By developing the SL-1200GR2 and SL-1210GR2 turntables around Technics’ iconic direct-drive motor technology and using our expertise within full-digital amplifiers to further reduce motor vibration, we’re taking the vinyl analogue experience to the next level,” adds Balzuweit.

Style and environmentally conscious

The new turntables have been developed with design in mind, with colour matched components – all silver on the SL-1200GR2 and all black on the SL-1210GR2 – and new body surface touch quality. This is on top of the acclaimed mechanical design retained from their predecessors, the SL-1200GR2 and SL-1210GR turntables, with a robust, 2-layered bottom chassis made of aluminium and Bulk Moulding Compound (BMC), as well as the high-sensitivity S-shaped aluminium tonearm and effective insulator feet – for high resistance against vibrations.

To reduce the environmental impact of its packaging, while ensuring that Technics products are fully protected throughout the journey to consumers, the new packaging for the SL-1200GR2 and SL-1210GR2 is free of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS). Instead, it is made of smart shaped cardboard, maintaining safe protection of the product, including a cardboard box for the accessories for ease of removal and storage. Technics is currently working to expand new packaging to other line-ups and integrate more recyclable content into packaging materials in the future.

The new SL-1200GR2 in silver and SL-1210GR2 in black will be available from October 2023 at authorised Technics retailers.
