Panasonic 2018 4K TVs: HDR10+ Firmware Update and Certification

  • HDR10+ firmware update for FX600 series and above for playback of true-to-life 4K HDR pictures
  • HDR10+ certification of FX700 series and above, meeting highest standards for picture quality
  • HDR10+ content already available on Amazon Prime Video with major Studios exploring possible releases in the near future

Panasonic today announced that it has issued a firmware update for its 2018 4K TVs from the FX600 series and above. This facilitates the play back of HDR10+ dynamic metadata content, bringing the user experience much closer to the original creative intent for Hollywood films.

The company additionally announced that the FX700 series and above have been HDR10+ certified. This means that it has been tested by an external Authorized Testing Centre that it meets the high Hollywood standards defined in cooperation with 20th Century Fox.

“Panasonic is happy to announce that through the deployment of a firmware update, the majority of our 2018 4K models are now HDR10+ certified meaning that our viewers will be able to enjoy content even closer to the intentions of the filmmakers”, said Toshiharu Tsutsui, Director of Panasonic’s TV Business Division.

HDR 10+ Content

20th Century Fox has committed to incorporating HDR10+ in its upcoming new release slate. The studio is currently exploring several titles for release in the marketplace and plans to announce availability in the coming weeks.

Amazon Prime Video was the first streaming service to launch HDR10+ content in December 2017 and made the entire Prime Video HDR library available in HDR10+.

Warner Bros. film studio has already announced that they will release their industry leading library of 4K titles in HDR10+ later this year, as they are committed to more accurately bring the filmmaker’s vision of their titles to consumers in the home.
